Brazilian Customers Visit Eastern Shipbuilding
May 14, 2013

Senior officials of the Brazilian company Bravante were in Panama City last week to inspect their ships now under construction at Eastern Shipbuilding. Bravante’s contract with Eastern for five platform supply vessels is worth $241 million and translates into 300 shipyard jobs for three years here in Panama City.

Lifeguard Ambulance Service - Bay County is excited to announce that it was officially notified that its Bay County operation is now accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Ambulance Services. Out of nearly 300 advanced life support EMS and fire rescue agencies in the state of Florida, only nine hold this prestigious accreditation.

On January 23 rd , a delegation from the Chamber spent a very busy and productive day in Tallahassee to deliver our 2013 Legislative Agenda. Meetings were held with the Speaker of House Will Weatherford, Senate President Don Gaetz, Representative Jimmy Patronis and Speaker Pro Tem Representative Marti Coley. In addition, the group met with Florida Dept. of Transportation and Florida Dept. of Environmental Protection representatives. Thanks to Pam Anderson, Larry Carroll, Rob Jackson, Carol Roberts, Dan Rowe and Neal Wade for carrying our message to the state capitol. Read more on our 2013 Legislative Agenda.

Southerland Elected Vice Chair of Coast Guard Subcommittee
January 23, 2013

House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee Chairman Bill Shuster announced Tuesday that he has appointed Rep. Steve Southerland, II to serve as vice chairman of the Subcommittee on Coast Guard and Maritime Transportation for the 113th Congress. Southerland’s new role will enhance his leadership for Florida on Coast Guard, ports, and maritime issues in Congress.

Law Enforcement Memorial Honors Fallen Officers
December 17, 2012

Panama City, Florida, December 17 – The Bay County Chamber of Commerce will hold a dedication ceremony on Tuesday, December 18th, for the Law Enforcement Memorial at the Bay County Government Complex on 840 West 11th Street. The memorial is a project of Leadership Bay, who raised more than $70,000 thanks to local contributions. The memorial honors fallen officers.

Lifeguard Ambulance Helping Residents for the Holidays

Lifeguard Ambulance Service is offering its first annual "Home for the Holidays" assistance program for Thanksgiving. This complimentary ambulance transportation is offered to local residents in skilled nursing and assisted living facilities, who might otherwise be unable to be with their families for Thanksgiving due to limited access to specialized transportation.

JLB is an exciting program for high school juniors, designed to educate local students on the resources and opportunities in Bay County. Gov. Rick Scott Visits Panama City
April 2, 2012

Governor Rick Scott today (April 2, 2012) signed SB 1416/HB 7027 that will save Florida businesses $50 per employee an estimated $400 million savings, according to the Florida Chamber of Commerce. Record unemployment drew down the state’s unemployment compensation trust fund, triggering what would have been an automatic tax increase on the state’s job creators.

Southerland, other congressmen, support changes to federal fishing regulations The Keep Fishermen Fishing Rally was held in an effort to protect the rights of families whose livelihood depends on access to U.S. fisheries. The ultimate goal was to spark an amendment to the Magnuson-Stevens Act, the law governing fisheries regulations in the U.S. that fishermen say is singlehandedly pushing many American fishing families out of the business.
