BCAS Animal Adoption

 Bay County Animal Services will hold its monthly pet adoption event, in conjunction with the Panama City Woman’s Club, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday May 2 at the Bay County Government Center, located at 840 W. 11th St., Panama City.

 

Dogs and cats will be on site and available for adoption at $25 each.

 

The shelter accepts cash, credit cards and personal checks. Florida law requires that pets adopted from a shelter must be spayed or neutered. Animals that cannot be spayed or neutered due to age or compromised health will have to be spayed or neutered by an agreed-upon date. The adopter must provide a $100 deposit with the adoption of such an animal, which will be refunded when proof of the spay/neuter is provided to the shelter.

GCSC Summer Sport Camps

Girl's sport camps include basketball for grades 6-12 and volleyball for grades 6-10.

 

Boy's sport camps include baseball for ages 7-12 and two basketball camps for grades 1-5 and 6-9.

 

All camps are $60 per student.  Pre-registration is recommended and can be completed in the office of Admissions and Records at the Panama City Campus, Gulf/Franklin Campus or the North Bay Campus.  Participants' social security numbers are mandatory at the time of registration.  Registration will also be available the same day each camp begins in the Wellness Building.

The Panama City Rescue Mission invites you, your church, club, Sunday School or other group to hold a collection drive for clothing or supplies and also to sign up to volunteer to help sort clothes all summer long, and distribute them in August.

An Understanding Grief and Loss workshop will be held on Thursday, July 24, at 5:45pm in the Covenant Hospice Education Room.  The workshop goes until around 8:00pm.

 

Pre-registration is required no later than Wednesday, July 22 - CALL TO REGISTER.  There is NO CHARGE for the workshop.

 

This workshop is presented by Covenant Hospice bereavement support services for Health Care Professionals interested in learning more about the natural process of grieving following significant loss.  Guest speaker is Bereavement Specialist Christina Coates Cassani, M.S. (Counseling and Human Systems).

 

This is a continuing education course and 2.0 contact hours will be awarded to FL and AL nurses, FL social workers, LMHC and MFT and FL nursing home administrators.  AL social workers will receive 1.5 contact hours.

Groundbreaking for VA/Navy Clinics

NSA-PC and Veterans Affairs' Gulf Coast Veterans Health Care System announced the groundbreaking for two new medical clinics at the Navy base.  On property located near the Tom Thumb at 6862 Magnolia Beach Rd in Panama City Beach, the ceremony will be held Thursday, August 7, at 9:00am.

 

Project consists of two building:  a roughly 30,000 s.f. Community Based Outpatient Clinic for the Gulf Coast VA and a roughly 5,300 s.f. Naval Branch Health Clinic.

Women of Distinction Awards Gala

The Girl Scouts of the FL Panhandle will hold their annual Women of Distinction Awards Gala  on Saturday, August 23, 2014, at 6:00pm.  
 

This program honors women from across the Florida Panhandle who truly stand out for their commitment to the community.  Nominations are now being accepted for the 2014 Women of Distinction awards program.

 

The women honored for 2014 will join the 110 women in the Florida Panhandle who have been honored as Women of Distinction since the program’s inception in 1998.  All nominees will be honored during the Women of Distinction Awards Gala on August 23.

 

Nominees must live or work in Bay, Calhoun, Escambia, Gulf, Holmes, Jackson, Okaloosa, Santa Rosa, Walton or Washington County.

14th Annual Jazz By The Bay @ St. Andrews

This year’s festival is dedicated to the late Dr, Ralph Peterson, a long-time member and supporter of the Gulf Jazz Society, sponsors of Jazz-By-The-Bay.   FREE AND OPEN TO THE PUBLIC.

 

Headlining the festival will be the Minneapolis-based Barnaby Coast Dixieland Show Band, a nationally acclaimed ensemble that has played everywhere from the Mississippi paddlewheel boats and the Minnesota State Fair, to Nagasaki, Japan, and in prestigious jazz festivals throughout the United States.

 

Other artists scheduled at the festival are guitaist and vocalist Jimmy Ward and his Trio: Latin flautist and vocalist Stephanie Pettis and her Rio ensemble: Tallahassee pianist Bill Peterson and his Trio: the Pensacola State College Jazz Band; and popular vocalist Mike Stone and his Trio doing the Sinatra songbook.
