Nelson in Panhandle Monday to talk RESTORE Act
PENSACOLA
- U.S. Sen. Bill Nelson will be in the Panhandle Monday to meet with local elected officials and community leaders in Escambia, Okaloosa and Bay Counties. His visit comes just days after Congress passed the RESTORE Act, a measure that sends 80 percent of fine money collected from BP in the wake of the Deepwater Horizon oil spill back to states and communities along the Gulf Coast. While the lion’s share of the funds will be used for restoration and economic development activities, the measure also dedicates funds for long-term spill-related scientific research.
