Affairs Update June 12, 2013
May was a very busy month in
Governmental Affairs at the Chamber, and will continue to be jam-packed as we
tackle on the 2014 Legislative Survey. Watch out for more updates and alerts as
we follow the news that affects Bay County.
Bay County Chamber 2014 Legislative Survey
The Governmental Affairs
Committee is currently designing the 2014 Legislative Survey and is interested
in your input! Please contact Chelsea Hamati at
any political issues or topics you would like to see addressed on the survey.
The results from the survey will be used to frame next year's Legislative
Agenda and how we promote the Chamber's interests. These are just some of the
Bay County strides we have helped achieve based on your input just in 2013:
Securing DOT funding for the 23rd Street and Highway 98
Promoting Florida's safe numeric nutrient water standards
Roundtable Discussion with Senator Gaetz
On June 5, the Governmental
Affairs Committee and Chamber Board of Directors hosted a roundtable discussion
with Florida Senate President Don Gaetz. Senator Gaetz spoke about the
resurgence of the Florida economy, the new Career and Professional Education
Academies to be implemented in Florida high schools, and the impact of federal
issues such as healthcare reform and sequestration. To see Senator Gaetz'
wrap-up of the 2013 Florida Legislative Session, click here.
Thank you to Senator Gaetz for
all your work in representing Bay County's interests in Tallahassee!
Florida Chamber Small Business Index Survey
The Florida Chamber is in need
of local Chambers' support in taking their Small Business Index Survey. The
purpose of the survey is to obtain the most accurate information about the
business climate in Florida to strengthen the 2013 Florida Business Agenda. The
deadline to respond to the online survey is Friday, June 28. The Bay County Chamber will forward the results
when available for your convenience in July.

Last year's results indicated that the
economic uncertainty, implementing ObamaCare, and government
regulations were the biggest issues facing Florida's small
businesses. The Florida Chamber has been working in Tallahassee and
nationally to create a stable and predictable business climate and create jobs.
