Chamber Makes Trip to State Capitol
Members from your Bay County Chamber Governmental Affairs Committee traveled to Tallahassee on Wednesday, January 23, 2013, to meet with our legislators and decision makers at the State Capitol. The team members were: Larry Carroll, Chairman-Elect of the Chamber; Rob Jackson, Government Affairs Chairman; Dan Rowe, TDC Director; Neal Wade, EDA Director; Pam Anderson, Captain Anderson Marina; and, Carol Roberts, Chamber President/CEO. They went to Tallahassee to highlight the legislative issues important to Bay County and our business community.
The meetings went very well. The group met with Senate President, Don Gaetz; House Speaker Pro-tem Representative Marti Coley; DOT Assistant Secretary Brian Blanchard, and District Secretary Tommy Barfield; DEP Assistant Secretary Mimi Drew and her Restore Act team; our own Representative Jimmy Patronis; and Speaker of the House Will Weatherford. Northwest Florida is represented very well in leadership positions in both the House and Senate this term. These next few years could be a unique opportunity to ensure that issues important to the Chamber and Northwest Florida are considered by our Legislature and governmental agencies.
The Chamber's legislative agenda was well received. The legislature and agency leaders asked excellent questions that showed they were aware of issues important to us. We acquired plenty of feedback and direction. Bottom line, we anticipate good things coming out of this Legislative Session, especially in the areas of transportation and job creation.
