Trumbull appointed to Florida Defense Support Task Force
June 8, 2017

Thursday, State Representative Jay Trumbull announced that House Speaker Richard Corcoran has appointed him to the Florida Defense Support Task Force. The group’s mission is to preserve, protect, and enhance Florida’s military missions and installations. Trumbull’s appointment is effective immediately and will run through November of 2018.

Bay County Commission Approves Resolution to Save Federal Co
June 6, 2017

The Bay County Board of County Commissioners approved a resolution Tuesday to support the concept of repurposing the Bay County Juvenile Justice Building as a Federal Courthouse and further support the constructing of a new Bay County Juvenile Justice Facility at their regularly scheduled meeting. This resolution supports efforts made by the Bay County Chamber of Commerce and its Federal Courthouse Task Force to keep the Panama City Division of Northern District of Florida Federal Court System.

Governor Scott Signs Triumph Bill
June 5, 2017

Governor Rick Scott visited Bay County Monday for the ceremonial bill signing of the Triumph Bill. Many of the attendees were from the eight effected counties, showing their support as Governor Scott signed the bill to ensure $300 million benefits communities in the Panhandle and ensures economic growth.

Gov. Scott signs legislation to cut taxes
May 25, 2017

Thursday, Governor Rick Scott signed HB 7109, which cuted taxes by $180 million for Florida families and businesses. This brings the total amount of taxes cut since Governor Scott has been in office to more than $6.7 billion.

The U.S. Senate Commerce Committee approved a Coast Guard spending plan Thursday that would set aside $4 billion over the next two years for the Coast Guard to continue building new ships and aircraft.

The St. Joe Company and the Bay Economic Development Alliance announced Tuesday that one of the world's largest independent first tier suppliers to the international aviation industry, GKN Aerospace, will expand its operations by locating a new manufacturing facility in Venture Crossings Enterprise Centre in Bay County, Florida.

Expansion of Health Technology Company Will Create 100 Jobs
August 24, 2016

Today, it was announced that Jellyfish Health LLC, a health care technology company that makes health care more convenient for patients, staff and physicians, is expanding its operations in Panama City, Florida. Jellyfish Health is creating 100 new jobs at an average annual wage of $70,000. The majority of the new jobs will be focused on software development with an average wage that is more than 200 percent of the current average in Bay County, Florida.

Governmental Affairs Action Alert July 19, 2016
July 19, 2016

A public hearing will be held on August 16th to consider the National Council on Compensation Insurance, Inc. (NCCI) Workers' Compensation rate filing. In the filing, NCCI requests an overall average increase in rate levels of 19.6% for the voluntary market for all new, renewal, and outstanding workers' compensation insurance policies written in the State of Florida, effective October 1, 2016. This is in response to two recently settled Florida Supreme Court Cases regarding an attorney fee provision and the temporary total disability benefits limit.

At the conclusion of the ceremony, Amanda Lovett from Palm Bay Preparatory Academy was presented with a scholarship to attend Gulf Coast State College and Florida State University – Panama City Campus. LASIK for Local Heroes Winners
November 19, 2015

The Eye Center of North Florida and the Bay County Chamber of Commerce are pleased announce the winners of our annual LASIK for Local Heroes Contest. This year, identical twin brothers Lawrence and Douglas Smith were selected. Lawrence is a Lieutenant with Bay County EMS and Douglas is a Sergeant with the Bay County Sheriff's office. Both have served our community as First Responders for almost 20 years.

New Sports Village Coming to Panama City Beach
July 1, 2015

Representatives from Visit Panama City Beach, St. Joe Company and the Bay County School Board announce details on a public-private partnership to bring a world-class sports village and k-8 school to the destination. Intended to bring more sports visitors to Panama City Beach in the spring and fall months, the project will attract large-scale tournaments for rectangle field sports, such as soccer, lacrosse, rugby and football.

Bay County Commission Approves Driver's Ed JLB Project
April 22, 2015

It was a big win for Junior Leadership Bay on Tuesday morning. The Bay County Commission unanimously approved to enact the Dori Slosberg Act which will add a $5 fee on any moving traffic violation in Bay County to fund driver’s education in Bay District Schools.

Southwest Announces Daily Non-Stop Service to Dallas
February 12, 2015

Northwest Florida Beaches International Airport (ECP) has announced that Southwest Airlines will begin nonstop service to Dallas, Texas. Service will begin on March 7, with Saturday nonstop service to Dallas Love Field (DAL). Beginning on April 8, Southwest Airlines will increase air service offerings with a daily nonstop service to DAL. Flights are scheduled through the summer season.

Bay County Chamber Wins Three Communication Awards

For the first time ever, on September 9-11, the Florida Association of Chamber Professionals (FACP) held its annual conference in Bay County. Over one hundred Chamber executives from all over the State of Florida participated in the event held at Edgewater Beach Resort and Conference Center. The conference provides continuing education opportunities to those participants to take back innovative programs to their respective communities.

A lawsuit was ruled upon that could allow National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) to close the red snapper fishing season for 2014 and possibly for 2015 in Federal waters. Next week the Gulf of Mexico Fishery Management Council will meet to determine the number of days for Florida red snapper season. Act now regarding this issue!

Bay County Chamber Supports Panama City Bed Tax
November 26, 2013

Bay County Chamber of Commerce Chairman, Bill Fenimore presented a letter in support of a new bed tax within the Panama City, city limits to its commission on November 26th. The bed tax will only be applicable to Panama City visitors who rent or lease accommodations for less than six months.

Created by American Express in 2010, Small Business Saturday is a day dedicated to supporting small businesses nationwide. Chamber Hosts First Color Vibe Run in Panama City
November 18, 2013

The Bay County Chamber of Commerce partnered with The Color Vibe Race Series to bring a Color Vibe 5k Race to Panama City, FL, on Saturday, November 16th. The race took place at the old Bay County- Panama City International Airport. Over 3,800 runners came out for a fun-filled day of color. The Color Vibe Race Series 5k is a fun, 3.1 mile run infused with color. Runners started the race with a clean, white t-shirt and passed through four color stations. At the end of the run, they were colored in vibrant green, pink, blue, yellow and purple.

14th Class of Junior Leadership Bay Announced
September 26, 2013

The Bay County Chamber is pleased to announce the 14th class of Junior Leadership Bay. On September 23rd at 5:30 p.m., a reception was held to welcome the participants at the FSU PC Holley Academic Center. Junior Leadership Bay is an eight month program for high school juniors designed to prepare, develop and enhance high school juniors for future roles in community leadership at an early point in life. At the completion of the class, one graduate will be presented with a scholarship to attend Gulf Coast State College and Florida State University – Panama City Campus.

The Bay County Chamber of Commerce and Tyndall Federal Credit Union presented the “3rd Annual First Responders Appreciation Luncheon”, on Friday, September 20th at FSU-Panama City. Tallahassee’s first female Fire Chief and one of the first in Florida, Retired Chief Cindy Dick, spoke on the challenges of being a First Responder and what it means to receive community support from events like this one.

Leadership Bay 2013-2014 Class
August 21, 2013

The Leadership Bay Steering Committee under the Chairmanship of Tammala Spencer, met and selected the 31st Class of Leadership Bay. The group will begin the eight-month program on where participants will attend a weekend retreat October 4th - 5th at Tyndall Air Force Base that will expose them to numerous leadership and team building exercises. Steering Committee members and Gulf Coast State College staff conduct the retreat. Read more about the participants.

Eastern Shipbuilding Launches New Vessel
August 16, 2013

The Bay County Chamber of Commerce co-hosted a delegation of executives from the Brazilian company, Boldini, S.A./Bravante Group at an event at which they accepted delivery of a vessel constructed for them by the Eastern Shipbuilding Group of Panama City (ESG). The boat delivery event took place at the ESG Nelson Yard in Panama City on August 5, 2013. A second vessel was launched the same day.

Brazilian Customers Visit Eastern Shipbuilding
May 14, 2013

Senior officials of the Brazilian company Bravante were in Panama City last week to inspect their ships now under construction at Eastern Shipbuilding. Bravante's contract with Eastern for five platform supply vessels is worth $241 million and translates into 300 shipyard jobs for three years here in Panama City.

Lifeguard Ambulance Service - Bay County is excited to announce that it was officially notified that its Bay County operation is now accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Ambulance Services. On January 23 rd , a delegation from the Chamber spent a very busy and productive day in Tallahassee to deliver our 2013 Legislative Agenda. Meetings were held with the Speaker of House Will Weatherford, Senate President Don Gaetz, Representative Jimmy Patronis and Speaker Pro Tem Representative Marti Coley. In addition, the group met with Florida Dept. of Transportation and Florida Dept. of Environmental Protection representatives. Southerland Elected Vice Chair of Coast Guard Subcommittee

House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee Chairman Bill Shuster announced Tuesday that he has appointed Rep. Steve Southerland, II to serve as vice chairman of the Subcommittee on Coast Guard and Maritime Transportation for the 113th Congress. Panama City, Florida, December 17 – The Bay County Chamber of Commerce will hold a dedication ceremony on Tuesday, December 18th, for the Law Enforcement Memorial at the Bay County Government Complex on 840 West 11th Street. The memorial is a project of Leadership Bay, who raised more than $70,000 thanks to local contributions. The memorial honors fallen officers.

This complimentary ambulance transportation is offered to local residents in skilled nursing and assisted living facilities, who might otherwise be unable to be with their families for Thanksgiving due to limited access to specialized transportation.

JLB is an exciting program for high school juniors, designed to educate local students on the resources and opportunities in Bay County. Gov. Rick Scott Visits Panama City
April 2, 2012

Governor Rick Scott today (April 2, 2012) signed SB 1416/HB 7027 that will save Florida businesses $50 per employee an estimated $400 million savings, according to the Florida Chamber of Commerce. Record unemployment drew down the state's unemployment compensation trust fund, triggering what would have been an automatic tax increase on the state's job creators.
